Anna contacted us to shoot her engagement photos after she bought a Groupon back in January. Originally, she wanted her photographs taken during the Cherry Blossom festival in Washington, DC. Unfortunately for the both of us, tourist season was a bit out of control and our scheduled engagement simply wasn’t going to fall into place. We had no other choice but to reschedule. With the cherry blossoms coming into bloom a little earlier than usual, we bit the bullet and moved our shoot to a second cherry blossom location in Bethesda. A community called Kenwood. But by the time we got there, the blossoms had run their course.
But, the shoot was far from awash. The photographs that emerged were beautiful, and in the end didn’t need the help of the cherry blossoms.
These photos were shot between 9:00 and 10:00am utilizing entirely natural light.

Picture a beautiful day in the beginning of spring. A calm waterfront in Old Town Alexandria and a couple just about bursting with affection for one another. Such was the circumstances that shaped the photos from this session.
The best of luck to this soon-to-be happily married couple!
These photographs were shot on an overcast weekday afternoon with a Canon 5D and Canon 70-200mm 2.8L lens attached.

The Lindsey’s oldest son was heading into the Navy. Before he left, they wanted to make sure they had some really great pictures taken as a family. That’s where I came in. We had a great time in Bowie’s Foxhill Park (seems to be a trend here). And, I had a chance to share a good conversation with Casey, the mother of house, who also happens to be an astounding cake artist! (But sshhh… we’re keeping that on the hush-hush!)

Jessie was the subject of a portrait I did in late fall this year. The image is part of a project that I’ll debut as a set sometime next year.
When her brother came home from school they finally had a small window in which to get some family portraits done. So they called and set it up for the only date they had available to do them. And it was raining!
Notice how as the photographs progress, everyone gets more and more wet—and cold! But we made the most of it, and had lots of fun in the process! It just goes to show that perfect weather doesn’t make great pictures—great families do!

Zack and Thuli are good friends. Due to some legal hoops with her visa, Thuli has to spend a few months back home in South Africa. As a couple, the two decided to have some portraits made before she had to leave.
These were taken on a small patch of rural land in Bowie, MD.
