True to Life Color.

Classic Black & White.

Privacy Conscious.

DC, Maryland, Virginia & Beyond

Classic feel, modern style.

The couples I work with want photos that feel natural and age gracefully.

On your wedding day I’ll give gentle, intentional direction when it’s needed so you don’t feel awkward, but I’ll also let candid moments stay candid. I help couples feel comfortable while capturing the best of both.

My editing preserves colors in true-to-life form, with natural skin tones, and sparingly chosen black and whites for emotional impact.

I create timeless, documentary-style wedding photography with an editorial flare. My work captures your authentic wedding day with emotional resonance you’ll feel good revisiting 20 years from now.

  • Your Privacy Matters to Me

My work requires respect, a strong sense of safety, and tremendous amount of trust. That’s why I practice discretion when sharing images of my clients. I don’t post identity-compromising images on social media without clear, enthusiastic permission. And when your privacy needs to go beyond that, I offer options for every comfort level, up to and including fully private galleries and formal NDAs.

    Hi, I'm William.

I have been photographing the important moments at people’s weddings for almost 20 years. Seldom are so many things that will matter for the rest of your life happening in such a short period of time, and seldom are so many of them at risk of being lost to memory forever. I see meaning in those moments unfolding around me that others often don’t, and I want to save them.

I only accept around 12 weddings per year, and I put my whole heart into each of them.

William is THE BEST. He is such a great guy and doing our engagement and wedding photos with him was such a great investment. He was so fun and personable and helpful through it all.

    ~ Cathryn L.

William is awesome! Very personable, professional and knowledgeable... Although we just met William, it seemed like we knew him forever.

  • You may be wondering what working with me looks like.

    Book your wedding

8 to 14 months before your wedding day
The first step is to secure your wedding date so that someone else doesn’t get it first. I will send you a digital agreement to look over and sign, and then I will collect 50% of your package price. That’s it, you’re done with booking!

I'll plan your wedding day coverage

6 to 8 weeks before your wedding
Once most of the big decisions for your wedding day have been made I’ll will send you a wedding discovery form which will help me gather all of the little details I’ll need to carefully plan your wedding day coverage and create a highly detailed photography timeline for your wedding day. If you have a wedding planner, I would love to get them involved in this process!

    The wedding day!

    The day has finally come!
On the wedding day I’ll arrive a little bit early to look around and make some creative and strategic decisions, then when coverage begins we’ll follow our plan throughout the day and use high-level priorities lists to adapt to any unexpected changes that might arise. Congratulations, you’re married!

    I'll send you some previews

About 14 days after the wedding day
You won’t have to wait long to get a preview of what I captured on your wedding day. Previews will typically include around 5-10% of the full gallery. They’ll be delivered as high resolution digital files sent directly to your inbox, so you can get started on thank you cards and gifts for your parents right away!

    Your full gallery is ready!

4-8 weeks after the wedding day
All the waiting is over and you will receive a notification in your email that your images are ready. You’ll be able to view the images right away in your private online gallery where you can share with friends and order prints. You will also be given a link to download the high resolution images directly to your computer for safekeeping and printing on your own.

  • Engagement Sessions

    Included with most weddings.

Nearly all of my wedding packages include a complimentary engagement session, and not just for the sake of more and more photos. This session is a crucial opportunity for us to connect, to learn about each other, and to build a sense of comfort and safety before the wedding day arrives. The more I understand your unique story and lifestyle, the better I can capture the moments that matter most.

By spending this time together, you’ll feel more at ease in front of the camera, and I’ll be better equipped to create images that feel authentic to who you are at this time in your life.

Our engagement session was so fun and the pictures... amazing! I was so excited to spend my wedding day with him... He is the BEST photographer out there!

    ~ Jaclyn

By the time the wedding came, I felt completely prepared... We treasure not only our wedding photos but our engagement photo’s as well. The compliments still haven’t stopped!

  • Multiple Photographers

Weddings big and small deserve them.

In addition to making more efficient use of the time on your wedding day, multiple photographers bring context, perspective, and depth to your most important images.

A single frame can show what happened—but with two or more sets of eyes, it can also show what it meant. While you’re lost in the moment, they’re capturing everything around it: the tear on your dad’s cheek, your best friend’s reaction, your mom’s expression as you dance with your father. These aren’t just alternate angles—they’re emotional echoes that enrich the story and preserve the fullness of how it felt to be there.

Literally everyone who sees our wedding photos says they should be in a magazine. I highly recommend paying for two photographers... having two photographers made it possible to capture both of our reactions really well. It also allowed them to capture more of the action in greater detail throughout the day.

    ~ Krista

They were able to capture so many great moments of the day that, if it were only one photographer, I have no idea how he would come close to covering the scope that Petruzzo photography did.

    ~ Kyle

  • I'll plan for just about anything.

I’m not here to turn your wedding into a photoshoot. I’m here to make sure the moments that matter don’t get lost in the blur. That’s why I build a photography timeline. Carefully, and always around your priorities. We’ll start with what’s important to you, then build time and space for it to actually happen.

Once the day picks up speed, even the best intentions can slip. A photo with someone important. A quiet moment with your new spouse. When priorities aren’t clear, the day decides what gets remembered. A solid timeline protects what matters, without hijacking the flow. Fewer interruptions. More presence. Better photos. And if something changes? I’ll adapt. But there’s less to rescue when we’ve already made room for what matters.

We hardly noticed them during the events, but they managed to capture everything beautifully!

    What comes next?

Weddings have countless moving parts and photography is just about the only thing you’ll take with you when it’s done. Couples hire me because they want someone who can help keep the day on track, create beautiful images under pressure, and make them feel comfortable throughout.

Most of my clients tend to spend between $3,000 and $5,000 on their wedding photography in Maryland, depending on what matters most to them.

I accept around a dozen weddings each year and I choose the weddings I take based on whether we’re a good fit and whether I feel we can make something exceptional together. I am also available nationwide and would love to discuss destination opportunities with you.

Let’s just start by checking if I’m available for your date. Fill out the form below and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible to let you know if I’m available.

*Your information will never be shared, sold or used to spam you.

    Wedding Photography FAQ's

    • Are you only interested in couples with big budgets?

No. I only take around a dozen weddings a year, and the deciding factor is fit, not how much you’re spending. You’ll be working closely with me before, during, and after the day, so the chemistry has to feel right on both sides. If we talk, I’ll be upfront about what makes sense for your plans and priorities. Sometimes that means recommending less than what people think they need, and sometimes it’s more. You can read my candid thoughts on pricing here.

    • Can I hold my engagement session on a weekend?

I don’t have any official blackout dates for engagement sessions, but weekends are typically unavailable. We might get lucky and find one we can work with, but it’s best not to bank on it.

    • Do you require a deposit?

I collect a 50% deposit at the time of booking, with the remaining payment due 10 days before your wedding date.

    • Do you shoot queer weddings & elopements?

      Absolutely. You’re in good company.

    • Do you work with a shot list?

Yes and no. While planning your wedding day coverage with you, I’ll develop a list of photos I might not otherwise know to look for (for example, details you DIY’d, important people, etc), and I’ll have a general list of high priority images for various parts of your wedding day to improve my chances of getting everything that’s important to you. For things like family portraits, I will use a very specific list of images. I’m trying to strike a balance between check lists and organic spontaneity though, so I want to avoid a bloated list.

    • How far in advance should we book?

I recommend that you book your wedding photography 10 months to one year in advance of your wedding day. Last minute bookings are occasionally available though, so don’t hesitate to ask!

    • How long before the images are finished?

Unlike many photographers, I am not just slapping a filter on the images and hitting send, therefore editing can take a little longer. The average turn around time for wedding photos is 4 to 8 weeks. It is sometimes quicker than this, and occasionally a little longer for weddings that pose unique technical challenges. I will always keep you in the loop when facing a delay.

    • How many images are included? Is there a limit?

Since every wedding is different, it’s not possible to determine with certainty how many images will be delivered, but there is no limit. In general, a team of two photographers will create around 100-150 images per hour.

    • What if we already had an engagement session? What if you were the photographer?

Engagement sessions are included with some bookings as a courtesy. While you’re free to opt out of the engagement session if you like, I do not adjust the package price for that reason. If an engagement session is included with your booking, I recommend that you do it, even if you have already done one. However, if you and I worked on your engagement session and you choose to book a package which includes an engagement session, I can offset the price of your wedding package by the amount you paid for your engagement session.

    • What is “true-to-life” color?

True-to-Life is an editing style that aims to evoke an authentic representation of the colors in your wedding images. Rather than aiming for strict color accuracy, the style enhances the natural tones in a way that feels both realistic and true to the experience of the day. For instance, fall weddings might have slightly exaggerated autumn hues in the trees, and the greens in lawns could be subtly shifted toward yellow to better capture what it felt like to be there. These adjustments are designed to reflect how the day felt in the moment, rather than just how it appears to a camera. Subtlety is key here—the editing is often so delicate that you may find it difficult to tell exactly what has been enhanced. One of the primary benefits of True-to-Life editing is the stylistic longevity it provides to the images by helping to inoculate them against the constant changes in wedding photography trends.

    • What payment methods do you accept?

I accept check and ACH payments as well as credit and debit card payments. I recommend making digital payments with ACH in order to avoid credit card service charges. ACH payments run through the same secure portal as credit card payments, so I will never have access to your account details.

    • What’s your cancellation policy?

Cancellations are rare, but unfortunately they do happen occasionally. Your deposit and any money you already paid, sometimes referred to as a retainer, will be non-refundable. If your cancellation takes place more than 90 days before your original wedding date, the cancellation can happen without any further payments due. If you cancellation takes place less than 90 days in advance, I will do my best to rebook your wedding date, and if I am successful, no further payments will be due. However, if the date cannot be rebooked, you will still owe the remaining balance on your contract.

    • Who will my photographer be?

This is a small team. Your photographer will either be William or Felipe, or both, and you will know at the time of booking who is in the lead role. I also work with a small network of associates who help out when needed.

    • Why can’t you just tell me what it really costs?

Because I genuinely don’t know yet. Most couples land somewhere between $3,000 and $5,000, though sometimes a lot less, and occasionally a lot more. I’ve written about it candidly here.

    • Will the images be edited?

Absolutely. Every image I deliver will be processed to look its best. This typically means adjustments to color and tone, and in some cases light retouching.

    • Will you help with posing?

Yup, if you need it. I don’t want to get in the way when something natural is already working, but I also don’t want to leave you there wondering what to do with your hands when it’s not.

    • Will you photoshop my images?

Depending on the context of the image, I might remove some non-permanent blemishes and might slightly soften skin where it looks unnaturally rough. On portraits, I generally do not perform major cosmetic adjustments.

    • Will you travel? How much?

I’ve photographed weddings across the United States and internationally, and love the adventure of discovering a new city. I always keep my passport up to date, so I can go wherever your wedding is taking place. For locations outside the DMV region in the United States, you will be responsible for paying for travel, meals and two nights at your destination. For international weddings, you will be responsible for four nights at your destination.  If you’re interested in bringing me along, reach out and I’ll be happy to discuss what’s involved in the process.

    • Will you visit my wedding venue with me?

I have been doing this for a very long time, and it’s uncommon to come across a challenging venue I don’t know how to approach, so it’s rare that a visit to your venue is necessary prior to your wedding day, but it’s not unheard of. If your venue is on non-commercial property, is extremely large, or has some uniquely peculiar technical features, I might opt to pay the location a visit beforehand. If you want me to visit the venue even if I don’t think it’s necessary, this is a service you’ll pay a consulting fee for. Alternatively, if your venue is in my service area and you plan to do an engagement session with me, we can schedule the engagement session at the venue at no additional charge.
