Through a shoot for her job, Heather and I had worked together before. When she first contacted me about photographing their family, she wasn’t completely settled on what she wanted to do. She knew they wanted to document this time in her family’s life, but weren’t sure if she wanted to do a more traditional photoshoot, or something more candid and natural. After going back and forth a bit, I suggested that we do a combination of both – a few posed shots to capture some of the traditional family portrait elements, but also some more natural shots of them just being themselves. She loved the idea, and we decided to do the session at Jones Point Park in Alexandria, VA.
The day of the session arrived, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The fall leaves were just starting to turn, and the light was warm and golden. Heather, Hari, and their daughter were so much fun to photograph – they were up for anything I suggested, and were laughing and joking the whole time. We started with some posed shots, but quickly moved into more candid territory as the session went on. It was so sweet to see the love and connection between Heather, Hari, and their daughter, and I’m so happy that I was able to capture it in these photographs.
If you’re looking for a family photographer in the Alexandria, VA area, I would highly recommend Jones Point Park. It’s such a beautiful and interesting location, and there’s so many different areas to explore. I’m sure Heather and Hari will cherish these photographs for years to come, and I’m so glad I was able to be a part of documenting this special time in their lives.
