I had the pleasure of working with Elfreda Massie on her new headshots. Elfreda is a compelling and powerful woman; full of life, energy, passion and compassion. She’s had an incredible life and gleaned some poignant insights from it so far. So, she’s written a book, When The Music Changes. It’s what brought her to me for headshots. I have already had the pleasure of reading it, and wrote my own thoughts down in response. It was refreshing. Elfreda is the kind of person we’d all like to surround ourselves with, and her thoughts and ideas and experiences are indispensable treasures of wisdom. I was sad when the book came to an end, because I’d spent that time feeling like I was right there with her, and finishing the book felt a little like saying goodbye to a friend.
So naturally, I wanted the images we created together to represent Elfreda honestly, but also to highlight her positivity, warmth and strength. So, before we began shooting, we spent some time chatting and getting to know one another a bit. We took a tour of her beautiful home, and I got to have a great conversation with Elfreda’s charismatic husband, Leonard. They seem to compliment each other perfectly. We spent the majority of our time together in her Study, and in the music room, both of which were bathed in natural light. Toward the end, we were sure to step outside for a few in natural light, and to capture some images of Elfreda and Leonard together. Those images weren’t why I was there, but after getting to know them, it’s something I really wanted to do.
Check out some of my favorites from our session, and check out Elfreda’s book if you’re looking for something inspiring to read. You won’t regret it!
