Wandering the Grounds Around the Supreme Court for This Family Portrait Session

I absolutely loved working with this family and these two rambunctious sisters a few months back. We met up back in late November outside the Library of Congress in DC. From there we wandered around the building and up East Capitol St NW, which was closed for the day, before finishing up around the Supreme Court building and theĀ Folger Shakespeare Library. The weather was super nice, the sunlight was thinly diffused slightly by the late afternoon clouds, and everyone was in a really good mood. We spent a lot of time playing during this session, and I think that’s exactly how the girls liked it. And you’ll hear no complaints from me either. In my book, the natural and authentic expressions that genuine play brings out in people (kids and adults, alike) beats stuffy-perfection any day.

The Library of Congress and Supreme Court grounds in DC have emerged as some of our favorite destinations for family sessions in DC. The large stone surfaces, and meticulously manicured lawns make for a truly excellent backdrop. Of course, it’s important not to get in the way of other people also enjoying these land marks, so if you’re thinking of taking your family there for a session, consider doing so at an unorthodox time. You’ll also do well to think about parking beforehand, because street parking is typically scarce.
