About  Butler's Orchard

Butler’s Orchard, nestled in the picturesque Germantown, Maryland, has a rich history dating back to 1950, when George and Shirley Butler started their farming journey. Over the past seven decades, the 300-acre family-run farm has become a cherished destination for both locals and tourists. The orchard’s stunning beauty, combined with its historical significance, makes it an ideal location for portrait sessions.

The land on which Butler’s Orchard now stands was purchased by George Butler in 1947, with the intention of starting a dairy farm. However, fate had other plans for the family, and they began planting crops instead. Initially, the farm produced fruits like strawberries and raspberries, and as the years progressed, they expanded to cultivate apples, peaches, cherries, pumpkins, and more.

Through hard work, dedication, and a strong commitment to sustainable farming, the Butlers transformed their humble farm into a thriving agricultural enterprise. Today, Butler’s Orchard is a beloved local gem, offering a range of family-friendly activities, such as pick-your-own fruits, seasonal festivals, hayrides, and even a market selling fresh produce and homemade baked goods.

The enchanting landscape of Butler’s Orchard provides a unique backdrop for portrait sessions, whether it be for families, couples, or individuals. With sprawling orchards, scenic farm views, and rows of blossoming trees, the location offers a myriad of opportunities for stunning photographs. The changing seasons at the orchard also add an element of variety and charm, making each portrait session a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

However, it is essential to note that, as a working farm, Butler’s Orchard has scheduling limitations that differ from more typical locations. Throughout the year, there will be times when the location is unavailable for portrait sessions, as the farm will be busy with harvests and other agricultural activities. It is vital for clients to be aware of these scheduling constraints and plan their sessions accordingly.

For those unfamiliar with harvest schedules, it’s important to communicate with the orchard staff, who can provide guidance on the best times to book a portrait session. By doing so, clients can ensure that they have an unforgettable experience capturing beautiful memories at Butler’s Orchard, without disrupting the vital work that goes into maintaining the farm. You can learn more about scheduling at the Orchard here.
