Portrait Permits:

A permit for portrait photography is not required.

Parking Info:

Depending where you hold your session, there are a variety of parking options, both street and garage parking. For sessions throughout the historic city streets, we suggest beginning your session at St. Johns College across from Prince George St. In this case, there is typically free street parking available along College Ave or King George St. If you plan to shoot around Main St or Church Circle, parking is available at Gott’s Garage on Culvert St, and Noah Hillman Parking Garage on Duke of Gloucester St. We do not recommend looking for parking at the Annapolis Moto Park in the harbor, unless your session is very early in the morning, as the lot is typically full. For waterfront sessions, you may find parking, south, along Prince George St.

Important Photography Limtations at Downtown Annapolis

Sessions held in Downtown Annapolis typically involve a considerable amount of walking. It may be unrealistic for your photographer to bring specialized lighting equipment unless you intend to hold your session in one very specific spot, as opposed to the meandering kinds of sessions that tend to take place in this broad set of locations.

About  Downtown Annapolis

Downtown Annapolis, the capital city of Maryland, has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century. It was founded in 1649 and became an important port city during the colonial era, serving as the state’s political and social center.

Downtown Annapolis has been the site of many significant events throughout history, including the signing of the Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War, and the passage of the Maryland Toleration Act, which granted religious freedom to all Christians in the colony.

Today, Downtown Annapolis is a vibrant cultural hub that attracts visitors from around the world. It is home to many historic sites, such as the Maryland State House, the oldest state capitol still in continuous legislative use, and the United States Naval Academy, one of the country’s most prestigious military institutions.

Downtown Annapolis is also known for its picturesque scenery, with charming cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and stunning waterfront views. These elements make it a fantastic spot for portraits of all kinds.

One of the unique features of Downtown Annapolis is the variety of portrait locations available. From the iconic Maryland State House dome to the charming storefronts along Main Street, there are countless backdrops to choose from. Additionally, the natural beauty of the waterfront provides an ideal setting for portraits with a more organic feel.

However, it is worth noting that Downtown Annapolis is not one single portrait location, but rather a collection of different areas. As such, capturing a diverse range of portraits requires a fair amount of walking. Fortunately, the city is relatively compact, and most of the sites are within easy walking distance of each other.
